Librarians in Texas who serve on the 2x2 committee, read hundreds of books with the goal of finding the 20 best books for children, ages 2 through 2nd grade. This list is published at the beginning of each calendar year. Click here to see this year's list.
At Northwest, Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade students who read at least 5 books from the list (or have the books read to them) may vote in May for their favorite 2x2 book. The book receiving the most votes becomes the 2x2 book of the year for Northwest. A special sticker is applied to the book and it forever earns the distinction of the "Bear Award".

What are Bluebonnet books?
The Texas Bluebonnet Award is given to the best children's book as voted by Texas students in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6. Librarians in Texas who serve on the Bluebonnet committee, read hundreds of books with the goal of finding the 20 best books for children in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6. The books on this list become the Bluebonnet Nominees. This list is published in the fall of each year for the next year.
Texas students who read at least 5 books from the list may vote for their favorite Bluebonnet book in January. The book receiving the most votes becomes the Bluebonnet winner for the whole state of Texas. The award is very prestigious and the winning author generally feels very honored to have their book voted as the best by Texas students. A special sticker is applied to the book and it forever earns the distinction of the "Bluebonnet Award".
